Lawyer Charged with Forgery
It was indeed a show of shame for a lawyer in Ondo state, Olukayode Enitan. Enitan who is on trial in Akure Chief Magistrate Court is facing charges of forged financial records of Owena Oil and Gas Limited, a private oil company where the Ondo State Government has a 30 per cent interest.
With an eight-count charge of false declaration, falsification, forgery and altering of official statements at the Corporate Affairs Commission concerning Owena Oil and Gas Limited, he is said to have deprived proceeds, profits and dividends from the company and if found guilty offenses are punishable under section 516 of the criminal code cap 37 Vol 1 Laws of Ondo state of Nigeria 2006.
The trial is coming after a police investigation that found Enitan, and four others had carried out irregular dealings over shares of the Ondo State Government.
The accused counsel, Kemi Phinero objected to the charges and requested bail. While the prosecuting police counsel, Barrister Ajiboye objected to the bail application saying that the accused may not show up for his trial because of the gravity of his alleged offence. Enitan was however said to have jumped bail.
But magistrate Johnson Adelegan granted Enitan bail in the sum of N20m with two sureties who must be legal practitioners.
