Lawmaker representing Umahi’s constituency doles N5m to constituents
The lawmaker representing Governor David Umahi’s constituency in the Ebonyi House of Assembly, Chief Onu Nwonye (PDP—Ohaoazara West), has doled N5 million to the people as part of his 2018 constituency briefing.
Nwonye, who made the donation during the briefing at Uburu on Friday, said that he would always appreciate his people’s support in the three years he had spent as a member of the House of Assembly.
The lawmaker said that N2 million would be evenly distributed to 20 persons from the five wards of the constituency, while over N2.5 million would be given to individuals to appreciate their roles in the party’s electoral victories.
“I am also donating three brand new Sienna buses, a motorcycle to members of the constituency and over 200 bags of fertilizers to farmers to improve crop yield and harvest in the area.
“I also constructed at least two boreholes in each village of the constituency and paid the West African Examination Council (WAEC) and the National Examination Council (NECO) fees of indigent students from the constituency,” he said.
He thanked his people for their support to him and the state governor, pledging that they would continue to deliver democratic dividends to them.
“The governor has tremendously transformed all parts of the state infrastructurally and this has motivated me to contribute to the constituency’s development.
Chief Roy Umahi, the governor’s elder brother, while inaugurating some of Nwonye’s projects, noted that the governor was proud of the lawmaker as the constituency was witnessing a new era in infrastructure development.
“We have been vindicated by our decision to choose credible individuals to represent us in various political positions and this has made the governor and the people happy and proud.
“We heard in the past that lawmakers were given funds to construct constituency projects and there was nothing to show for such huge amounts.
“This is the first time we are witnessing the construction of quality projects in the constituency and this is a replication of the governor’s development strides across the state,” he said.
He commended the lawmaker for concentrating more on the construction of boreholes in solving the problem of adequate water supply confronting the people.
“The boreholes constructed by Nwonye are of high quality and evenly spread across the villages, even those that are inaccessible.
“I therefore, urge the people to support the re-election bids of the lawmaker and the governor for the sustenance of the democratic dividends provided to them by the duo,” he said.
The traditional ruler of Etiti Uburu community, Chief Uchenna Onu, noted that the people would continue to support Nwonye and the governor to achieve their aims in office.
“We will continue to enlighten our people to obtain their Permanent Voters Card (PVC) to ensure that leaders who have uplifted their well-being are returned in their various political positions,” he said.
A secondary school leaver, Miss Jane Analechi, thanked the lawmaker for his numerous gestures, noting that she successfully wrote her WAEC examinations because its fee was paid by him.
