At last, IPOB calls off Monday sit-at-home order; warns saboteurs
The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has finally called off its Monday sit-at-home order which has crippled socio-economic activities in the south east these past months.
The group warned saboteurs not to, in any form, harass anybody who chooses to transact his or her business on Mondays. “Any persons who violates the suspension of the sit-at-home order shall be dealt with accordingly,” the group said in a special announcement now viral on social media.
Recall that IPOB introduced a sit-at-home order in August 2021 to put pressure on the Nigerian government to release its leader, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, who is standing trial for alleged treasonable felony and terrorism.
The order which banished everybody in the south east to stay indoors had paralysed activities in the five states of the south east and had triggered a dip in socio-economic activities nationwide as visitors and business people avoided the south east every Monday.
Attempts by various governors in the south east to frustrate the order failed as those who hearkened to the voice of their governments and came out for business were dealt with. Some persons were killed, others lost valuables including their shops and businesses to the IPOB enforcers.
IPOB said in the announcement that though it has called off the order, a counter directive will be issued in future if the need for sit-at-home arises.
