LASG warns against conversion of residential buildings for commercial purposes in Ikeja
Nov. 19, 2021
The Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA) has warned property owners in Ikeja and environs to desist from using their property for purposes other than those approved by the agency.
The General Manager of LASPPPA, Mr. Kehinde Osinaike while speaking during a two-day enforcement exercise at Allen/Opebi axis decried the practice of converting residential buildings into commercial use by property owners in the area without necessary authorisation by LASPPPA.
Osinaike, who directed the sealing of some buildings for non-compliance with building regulations and conversion of residential buildings into commercial use without authorisation, pleaded with the general public to desist from illegal development in the collective interest of all residents.
The Coordinator, Monitoring and Compliance Unit, LASPPPA, Tpl. Olarinde Iyiola, remarked that the two-day enforcement exercise was to ensure that property owners, who have contravened the State’s Physical Planning Laws and Regulations, are made to comply with the Operative Development Plan of the area.
He said that structures with appropriate planning permit approvals were spared during the exercise.
Tpl. Iyiola disclosed that no fewer than 78 commercial and residential buildings and structures from Allen Roundabout to Opebi in Ikeja Local Government of Lagos State have been sealed, adding that 144 buildings were also served contravention notices in October 2021.
