The Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) says the state government will carry out massive renovation of some public schools ahead of the 2019/2020 academic session in September.
Mrs Kehinde Ajimoti, the Board Secretary, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
Ajimoti was reacting to availability of facilities to accommodate the over 160,000 primary six pupils that sat for the placement test into the Junior Secondary School on July 27.
NAN investigation revealed that many public schools, both primary and secondary, were in a deplorable condition.
Many of the schools were without windows, toilets, furniture and perimeter fencing, while some of the structures posed serious danger to the pupils.
Ajimoti said that the state government was trying to improve on all the existing facilities in the new session.
“We have facilities to accommodate the new pupils in our schools. Lagos State Government is really trying a lot to ensure that all our buildings that are dilapidated are being attended to and renovated during this long vacation”.
“So that by the time the pupils come back in September, the schools will be better off than when they left for vacation,” she said.
Also, Dr Oluwafemi Hassan, Director/Registrar, Lagos State Examination Board, said the state government was putting more infrastructure on ground.
Hassan said Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu had last week directed that all public schools and infrastructure be renovated ahead of resumption in September.
He said new schools were also coming on board and that the state government was equal to the task. (NAN)
