LASG STARTS REVIEW OF BADAGRY MASTER PLAN, INAUGURATES TECHNICAL COMMITTEE
July 15, 2021
The Lagos State Government has started the review of the Badagry Master Plan with the inauguration of a Technical Committee to work with the Consultant on the review.
Speaking during the inauguration of the Committee in Alausa on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako, said that the periodic review of the Operative Development Plans was one of the core functions of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, empowered to do so by the Lagos State Urban and Regional Planning Development Law 2019 (as amended) at an interval of five years.
He explained that the review was not done unilaterally by the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development but through the collaborative engagement of all relevant MDAs vested with the statutory responsibility for their respective sectors and sub-sectors.
“It may interest you to note that members of the Technical Committee were drawn from relevant MDAs, with the charge to evaluate, analyse and critique the submissions of the Consultant assigned to do the review, and communicate their MDAs’ position on the subject matter”, he said.
Salako added that the review would ultimately update the Development Plans and correct observed lapses in the subsisting Plan.
The Commissioner enjoined members of the Technical Committees to participate with the deserved diligence and provide the State with a fit-for-purpose plan to meet the 21st Century Economy aspiration of the Lagos State Government as envisioned in the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Urban Development, Mr. Ganiyu Adele Ayuba, added that the importance of Development Plans could not be overemphasised as the bedrock and reference point for physical development.
Also speaking at the event, Tpl. Mobolaji Olaseni, the Lead Consultant for Vistaplan Consulting Limited thanked the Lagos State Government for the opportunity to anchor the review of Badagry Master Plan, promising to deliver on time with the combined efforts of the Technical Committee.
