LASG RESCUES PREGNANT WIDOW FROM EVICTION BY BROTHERS-IN-LAW
Jan. 14, 2023
The Executive Secretary of Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi led DSVA Field Officers and Policemen from Alausa Police Station to the home of a pregnant widow who was about to be forcefully evicted by her brothers-in-law due to the death of her husband.
Speaking on the intervention, Vivour-Adeniyi said the Agency was prompted after receiving several distress calls from concerned and well-meaning residents regarding a recently widowed woman who was about to be forcefully evicted from her home by her late husband’s brothers.
She explained that the widow, whose husband died on Tuesday, 10th of January 2023, has a toddler and was also pregnant. Furthermore, the widow was allegedly beaten in the process of trying to forcefully evict her from her home.
“It is pertinent to note that while customs and traditions are respected, the relevant laws in Lagos State must be upheld at all times. I must, however, commend all the well-meaning residents of Lagos who reached out and insisted that justice must prevail and that the fight against the menace of domestic violence is a collective responsibility”, she noted.
While reassuring residents of Lagos State that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration is committed to a Lagos that is free from all forms of Domestic and Sexual Violence, Vivour-Adeniyi encouraged anyone experiencing domestic or sexual violence to call the toll-free line – 08000-333-333 for prompt support.
