Lagos fire chief Harps on Safety Compliance to Avert Incessant Fire Outbreaks
The acting Director of Lagos State Fire Service, Mr. Rasaki Musibau has emphasised the importance of positive attitudinal change and safety compliance among residents, saying it is the only antidote to fire outbreaks in the State.
Speaking at the scene of a fire incident in Orile-Agege on Tuesday, Musibau stated that contrary to stereotype belief, fire outbreaks and other forms of disaster are not by divine happenstance but are primarily caused by carelessness, recklessness, negligence and above all nonchalance towards safety precautions.
According to him, “It is becoming worrisome to note that basic fire precautions are being ignored by the people, thus the incessant fire outbreaks presently being witnessed in the State”.
He revealed that the Fire Station received a distress call about the outbreak at No. 110 Old Ota Road, Orile-Agege around 7a.m on Tuesday morning and swiftly deployed its Abesan, Agege, and Alausa units to the scene of the inferno.
Musibau stated that his men discovered the outbreak occurred as a result of carelessness and improper use of a domestic cooking stove within an expanse of land harbouring many shanty buildings.
“However, the fire was eventually brought under control through the combined efforts of Lagos Fire Service, Nigeria Police and other stakeholders”, he said.
