Labour says no strike, awaits Tinubu’s final approval
The organized Labour has said it will not rally its members for strike until President Bola Tinubu makes his final approval on what should be the ideal national minimum wage.
The clarification from Labour came as the Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage, on Monday, submitted its final report to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation for transmission to the President.
Political Economist NG reports that what was submitted to President Tinubu was the recommended N62,000 minimum wage.
The organised labour is proposing ₦250,000, which is a shift from its earlier ₦494,000 proposition.
A statement signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations in office of the SGF, Segun Imohiosen confirmed the submission.
He said that a formal presentation of the Report will be made to President Bola Tinubu for appropriate action, when the leadership of the Organised Labour as well as representatives of Government and Organised Private Sector, who are presently in Geneva, Switzerland for the ongoing International Labour Organisation (ILO) Conference, return to the country.
The SGF thanked the Chairman of the Committee, Bukar Goni Aji and members for their commitment and sacrifices.
But speaking in Geneva, Joe Ajaero, leader of the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, said contrary to expectation in some quarters, Labour will not down tools from Tuesday, June 11, being the expiry date of the five days grace given to the FG to conclude every talk on the lingering minimum wage issue.
The organised labour is proposing ₦250,000, which is a shift from its earlier ₦494,000.
Ajaero said Labour will await Tinubu’s final nod which he expects will be above the proposed N62,000.
Following the submission of the report, President Bola Tinubu is expected to send an executive bill to the National Assembly for legislative action.
