Kunle Ajayi: From Fela boy to Adeboye’s son; Daddy G.O explains transformation
Pastor Kunle Ajayi, the minstrel who heralds the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Worldwide, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, to the pulpit was once a radical whom God’s light located and transformed.
This was revealed by Pastor Adeboye during his sermon at the May 2020 Holy Ghost Service themed ‘Let There Be Light (Part 5). The programme was broadcast live on television and diverse internet platforms.
According to Adeboye, Kunle Ajayi, a multi-talented saxophonist who is also a pastor with RCCG, used to be a radical, the type you’d think will not amount to anything.
He recalled how they discovered Ajayi in his younger days in Mushin and because of his radicalism, they handed him over to a soldier in the hope that the soldier would be able to discipline him and rein him in to normal life.
“The soldier used to have a box guitar then and he began to teach Kunle how to play the box guitar. One day my wife and I travelled. We saw a flute and my wife decided to buy it for Kunle, something to keep a restless rascal busy.
“But one day, the light of God shone on him; he became born-again and the little rascal of yesterday has become a global evangelist today. He travels with me everywhere I go,” Adeoye said.
According to the popular RCCG pastor also called Daddy GO, the light of God is capable of exposing any hidden beauty
Pastor Ajayi grew up in Mushin as a fan of the late Afro Beat iconoclast, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti and was part of Fela’s band before he became a born-again Christian and joined the RCCG.
He has since grown into a pastor and a minstrel showing awesome dexterity with the saxophone and other wind instruments.
He is so good at his trade that he ushers Pastor Adeboye to the pulpit with his saxophone.
