Killing of Emenike was a plot beyond NSCDC man who pulled the trigger – Rep. Chima
Rep. Kingsley Chima, an Action Alliance (AA) lawmaker representing Ohaji/Egbema/Oguta/Oru Federal Constituency, has urged security agencies to thoroughly investigate the killing of Mr Ndubuisi Emenike, with a view to unravelling those behind the dastardly act.
Emenike, the AA candidate for Okigwe senatorial district in the 2019 election, was reportedly killed by personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) during a re-run election held in the area on Saturday.
The NSCDC Commandant-General, Mr Gana Abdullahi, had, on Monday, ordered full investigations into the killing by the personnel, identified as Emmanuel Okeh.
In a statement in Lagos on Tuesday, Chima said that there was the need to go beyond the personnel who killed Emenike, alleging that it was a plot and that those behind it must be unravelled.
“We can’t accept the arrest and probable prosecution of the NSCDC personnel alone. All those involved in the killing must be brought to book.
“Emenike was a kind-hearted, God-fearing politician. We will not let his death be treated by mere arrest of the man who pulled the trigger.
“We expect full investigation into the matter and for the NSCDC personnel to confess those behind his despicable act,” he said.
The lawmaker said that as a party member, they were all involved in the campaigns in the build up to the re-run poll ordered by INEC.
He said that Emenike’s killing was a rude shock to him and other members of the party. Considering the circumstances, the killing must not be handled with kid gloves so as to serve as deterrent to other criminally-minded people.
According to him, it will be a great disservice to the nation, Imo as well as humanity and the family of the late Emenike if everyone involved in the killing was not brought to book.
He said that the NSCDC alone should not carry out the interrogation but must work with other security agencies to ensure thorough probe of the incident.
“We will not rest on our oars until we bring everyone involved in the plot to book.
“Our hearts go to Emenike’s immediate family and to the people of Okigwe and Imo in general for losing such an illustrious son in his prime,” Chima added.
He prayed God to grant the deceased family and the state the fortitude to bear the loss. (NAN)
