Kachikwu Makes U-turn, Says Fuel Queues to go by April 7, Apologises to Nigerians
Nigeria’s Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, appearing before the Senate Tuesday made a u-turn on his earlier comment that fuel queues would linger till May; this time he says the long queues would disappear by Monday, April 7, 2016.
His comment had kicked up dust among Nigerians including from members of the ruling party, APC, who berated him for his pessimism.
Kachikwu who doubles as the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) was more upbeat when he appeared before the Senate committee on Petroleum (Downstream) over the fuel scarcity ravaging the country. He said: “By 6th or 7th April, the long queues in filling stations would disappear.” He also apologized to Nigerians over his earlier statement . Kachikwu was invited by the Senate Committee on Petroleum (Downstream) to explain his strategy for navigating the nation out of the fuel crisis.
