The Jigawa Government on Wednesday said it has sponsored 210 students to the Republic of the Sudan to study medicine.

The Deputy Governor, Alhaji Umar Namadi, made this known when the President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, Mustapha Isah and members of the standing committee, who were in the state to hold a meeting paid him a courtesy visit in Dutse.

Namadi said the aim of the sponsorship is to bridge the existing gap of manpower in the health sector for effective service delivery.

He said the students after graduation are expected to work in their various localities for a stipulated time.

”The state government plans to deploy at least one medical doctor to each health facility in all the rural communities.

”One of the cardinal principles of the government is to ensure the provision of efficient health service delivery in the state.

”In fulfilment of the set principles, the state government embarked on establishing more than 200 Primary Health Care facilities across the political ward in the state,” he said.

Namadi also announced that certain measures had been taken by the state government to enhance its educational system by equipping schools and improving performance of students.

”Proactive measures have been taken by the administration to ensure that Jigawa continues to enjoy the peaceful coexistence of the people as well as the business community.

”The state government has done a lot in the area of road infrastructure.  Jigawa is among the best states in terms of road infrastructure in the country,” he said.

Namadi also spoke about the state government achievements in the area of the provision of potable water, equipment and infrastructure in the agricultural sector.

Earlier, Isah thanked the deputy governor for receiving his team.

He said that the Standing Committee of the Guild was in Dutse to hold its meeting and commended the state government for its achievements in the area of infrastructure and agriculture.  (NAN)
