The Jigawa Consumer Protection Committee (CPC) has apprehended a trader for allegedly possessing seven sacks of adulterated sesame seeds.
Alhaji Farouk Abdallah, the chairman, CPC, disclosed this when he spoke with newsmen in Duste on Tuesday adding that the suspect was apprehended at a motor park in Hadejia Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
He said that the trader was suspected to have mixed the seeds with sharp sand to increase the weight.
Abdallah said that the trader had already been arraigned before a mobile court which sentenced him to nine months imprisonment and was given an option of N300,000 fine.
The chairman cautioned traders against such practice.
“Anyone found defrauding consumers will be made to face the full wrath of the law.
“The committee will not relent in its effort to protect consumers from adulterated foods and medicines in the state,” he said.
Two traders were apprehended by the committee on Thursday with 14 bags of suspected adulterated sesame seeds in Taura LGA after an unscheduled visit to Gujungu Market.(NAN)
