Iwu, others to Okorocha: Pay workers, pensioners, contractors to free up Imo economy
The Imo Economic Development Initiative, IEDI, has written a strongly worded letter to the Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha, on its concerns about the economic development of the State.
According to the letter titled: Our Economy, Our Concern, the economic stagnation in Imo State is as a result of poor money in circulation within the lower strata of the society. Dated January 5, 2018 and signed by the chairman of the initiative and former Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Chairman, Prof. Maurice Iwu, the letter suggested that the governor should ensure that salaries of workers are paid as at when due to minimise the hardship in the state.
“We are of the view that if effort is made, and measures introduced to improve our rankings in various crucial indices; pay workers, pensioners and contractors as at when due, key into external and alternative funding sources as well as find a lasting solution to urban mass transit issues; the economy of the State will improve considerably”, IEDI advised.
The IEDI, is an initiative that seeks primarily to contribute to the development of Imo State through private sector funding and leveraging on available Federal and State governments resources, with members drawn from the academia, Captains of Industry, retired senior military personnel, as well as other professionals of Imo State origin.
Some members of the Initiative and notable Nigerians drawn from the public and private sector include: Leo Stan Ekeh, Pascal Dozie, Senator Chris Anyanwu and a host of other prominent sons and daughters of the State.
