Impeachment threat: Rivers State House of Assembly set ablaze
Rivers State House of Assembly building has been set on fire amid threats to impeach the governor, Sim Fubara allegedly by the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, who facilitated the victory of Fubara at the polls.
The fire which started shortly before 10pm Sunday night attracted spectators who could merely stand and watch as the inferno razed down the complex.
Fingers are pointing in the direction of Wike as the architect behind the moves to impeach Fubara
The complex has been taken over by security agents from the nearby Command of the Rivers Police while a fire truck was also seen on the grounds of the facility.
There has been rumours of a rift between Governor Fubara and his political godfather and predecessor Nyesom Wike who is now FCT minister.
By Friday there was a move to remove house leader Ehie Edison and impeach Sim Fubara afterwards ostensibly on the directive from Abuja.
While those in favour were saying yea, those against poured fuel and started burning the building.
Wike and Fubara have been the best of friends before the election but analysts had projected that they will soon fall apart especially if Fubara decides to stop taken orders from Wike as has been the case between political godfathers and their godsons in Nigeria.
Details of the cause of fire has remained sketchy as no member was willing to speak on the matter by press time.
