Illegal Possession: NSCDC Nabs 6 suspects, Impounds 2 Trucks in Delta State
The Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) in Delta State has arrested six suspects for allegedly being in illegal possession of petroleum products.
The NSCDC Commandant in the state, Mr Eze Benito, who disclosed this at a news conference on Thursday in Asaba, said the command also impounded two trucks with which the products were being conveyed.
Benito said the suspects who were arrested along Eku road and Ughelli-Warri road were carrying diesel and kerosene in polythene bags.
He said one of the trucks with registration number LAGOS BDG 913XS had 2,750 litres of diesel and 2,250 litres of kerosene all concealed in polythene bags.
He said the second truck with registration number TRN 935ZG contained 5,600 litres of AGO also concealed in polythene bags.
The commandant said that the act was inimical to the economy of the nation and must be stopped.
Benito, who assumed office recently in Delta, said that the NSCDC was the lead agency against pipeline vandalism and petroleum theft.
He said that the corps was however working in partnership with other sister agencies to put a stop to illegal possession of petroleum products.
Benito also said that proper investigation would be carried into the incident after which the suspects would be prosecuted according to the law.
On interrogation, all the suspects claimed that they were ignorant of the content in the trucks. (NAN)
