Gbajabiamila is House Majority Leader, Thanks to Buhari
At last and against the wish of the Speaker and his supporters, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila has emerged the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives.
At the resumption of plenary on Tuesday, the Speaker, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, announced his arch rival, Gbajabiamila as the Majority Leader. His emergence followed weeks of horse-trading and negotiation among the contending forces.
Other Principal Officers announced by the Speaker are: Hon. Buba Jubril, Deputy Majority Leader; Hon. Alhassan Dogwa, Chief Whip and Pally Iriase, Deputy Whip.
The House and All Progressives Congress (APC) leaderships have been at loggerheads over allocation of four Principal offices – Majority Leader, Deputy, Chief Whip and Deputy since June 9, when the 8th House was inaugurated.
Gbajabiamila lost out to Dogara in the Speakership race and the party leadership felt he should be compensated by making him the House Leader.
President Muhammadu Buhari Monday evening waded into the crisis giving APC members in the House a marching order at a meeting held at the State House to respect the position of the party.
