Fresh wave of support favours Peter Obi to win; ADC, Ortom back LP candidate
Last minute wave of support has given Peter Obi, Labour Party presidential candidate a fresh lease to coast to victory in the Saturday presidential election.
On Monday, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) added to the growing support by endorsing Peter Obi for the February 25 poll.
The ADC announced the development at a press conference in Abuja on Monday.
In attendance at the event include the ADC National Chairman, Raphael Nwosu as well as LP chieftain and Obi’s righthand man, Pat Utomi.
Nwosu said after weighing presidential candidates in the country ahead of Saturday’s poll, it is the party’s conviction to back Obi.
“It is indeed our conviction that the Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi and his running mate, Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed will include good governance and accountability,” he said.
Also the Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, says he is ready to sacrifice his senatorial ambition in the National Assembly elections this Saturday, if it will ensure the victory of the presidential candidate of Labour Party, Peter Obi.
Ortom, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is contesting the election in the Benue North-West senatorial district.
His endorsement of Obi came after months of refusal to support the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, whose emergence in May 2022 was viewed by several high-ranking party members as unfair to the south.
“For me, it’s not even that I’m contesting an election. Yes, the form was bought for me by the people of Benue State. I’ve gone round; they have accepted that they will vote [for] me,” he told the Igbo community in his state.
