Fresh Elections Must Hold in Rivers as Wike Loses Appeal
The Court of Appeal Wednesday threw out the appeal of Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, seeking a dismissal of the judgment of the State Election Petitions Tribunal which sacked him as governor of the state.
The election tribunal, had in October, ruled that Wike was not duly elected as governor of the state, adding that a fresh poll should be conducted by INEC within 90 days. But appealing against the judgment, Wike argued that he was duly elected governor of the state in the April 11 election, urging the appellate court to set aside the tribunal’s judgment because it failed to consider the evidence tendered before it which indicated that actual election took place in Rivers state.
Wike argued that the tribunal should have sat in Rivers state and not in Abuja. But, the apex court dismissed his suit for lack of merit
