Former NSA, Dasuki, Arrested over Missing Terror Funds
President Muhammadu Buhari may have quietly begun his fight against corruption and his quest to recover the stolen billions from the nation’s coffers as operatives of the Department of State Services on Thursday invaded the Asokoro, Abuja residence of the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki.
The former NSA who was fired days ago is reportedly in the midst of a heist running into billions of naira perpetrated under his watch; the money was meant to prosecute the war against terror but allegedly found its way into private accounts. A Presidency told our reporter that more security personnel would be arrested in the coming days and weeks as part of the investigation to unearth the fraud and recover the money.
“The arrest of the former NSA is just the beginning of the whole exercise. The relevant authorities are working hard to make sure that suspects in the alleged scam do not go unpunished. They would be given fair hearing and the rule of law would definitely be followed in the whole process”, the source said.
It was learnt that the operation which was said to have been authorized by the top hierarchy of the DSS, was in connection with the secret probe into how billions of naira allocated for the war against terrorism was allegedly looted.
The unexpected visitors were said to have invaded the home of the former NSA, ransacked the house and whisked him away ostensibly for further interrogation.
Under the Goodluck Jonathan administration, billions were voted for security especially in the face of the war against terror but not much was achieved. Top military officers, according to sources, would soon be picked for interrogation in the alleged scam that highlighted operations against Boko Haram insurgency.
Dasuki who was appointed as NSA by former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2012, was relieved of his appointment by President Muhammadu Buhari a few days ago.
