Female housekeeper allegedly defiles four-year-old girl, remanded
An Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Wednesday remanded in prison, a housekeeper, Mercy Edeh, who allegedly defiled her employer’s four-year-old daughter.
Edeh, 26, whose residential address was not given, is standing trial on a two-count charge of indecent assault and defilement.
The plea of the defendant was not taken.
The Magistrate, Mrs K. O. Doja-Ojo, remanded the defendant in prison and said that application for the bail should bedone at the high court.
She also ordered that the case file be duplicated and sent to the office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.
Doja-Ojo adjourned the case until Sept. 11 for mention.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Peace Chukwudi, said that the defendant committed the alleged offences on Aug. 1, at 5:00pm at Chevron Drive, Ajah area of Lagos.
She said that the defendant defiled her employer’s four-year-old daughter by fingering her private part.
“The defendant indecently assaulted the four-year-old.
“The offences contravene Sections 135 and 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015,” she said
Section 135 provides seven years imprisonment for anyone found guilty of indecent assault while Section 137 provides life imprisonment for defilement.
