The senate on Wednesday called on the Federal Government to utilise all resources within its disposal to guarantee the freedom of Secondary School student, Leah Sharibu and Alice Loksha, the abducted ICRC aid worker.

This is coming after the announcement of the gruesome killing of Hauwa Liman; an aid worker with the ICRC by Boko Haram insurgents which has generated widespread condemnation.

According to Saraki who took to twitter, “We have also directed all Senate committees on security and intelligence to meet with our security agencies to find out if there are any issues that need to be addressed to end the abduction of aid workers and bring about the freedom and safe return of Leah and Alice”.

He added that the Nigerian Senate remain committed to continuing working with the Armed Forces to find a lasting solution to “these senseless killings by insurgents and improve our security infrastructure”.

“As I said on the 18th of September 2018, humanitarian workers, who go into troubled spots to alleviate people’s suffering are some of the most courageous and selfless people on the planet. They are not a target”, he said.

Meanwhile the mother of Hauwa Liman; the slain aid worker with the International Committee of Red Cross, ICRC,  who is still bereaved said,”I still can’t come to terms with my daughter’s death. They were looking for ransom and all the captors wanted was to be paid. The president announced that they’ll ensure that my daughter is freed but her captors were not patient to get paid; the time President Buhari made the announcement and the time she was killed was very short. These are women and aid workers that should have been spared”.

However, Mohammed Liman, Hauwa’s father praised his daughter’s humility and kindness, saying he will never forget her because she wanted to serve humanity.

Commenting on the ransom requested by the insurgents the Africa Regional Director, Red Cross, Patricia Danzi, said that the body decided against paying ransom as this will set a dangerous precedence for the 16,000 aid workers deployed to countries.

The ICRC however said it is not deter it in its operations in the North East
