A petition by aggrieved retired civil servants of Kano state has landed former Governor of the state, , Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, in trouble as the ex-governor was grilled by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for most part of Saturday.

Persons familiar with the petition said it had been gathering mould in the files of EFCC until recently when the commission decided to examine the merit or otherwise of the petition which alleged abuse of office, fraudulent allocation of government property to non-qualified persons suspected to be friends of the former governor, pension fund fraud and diversion of public funds.

Kwankwaso has had a long drawn battle with some politicians in the state whom a source close to him alleged may have triggered the petition many said is nursing presidential ambition in 2023 to run as running mate with a sitting governor in the south.

Though a strong member of the Peoples Democratic Party, he was rumoured to have toyed with the idea of joining the APC.

EFCC sources said he was first invited by the anti-graft commission in September but failed to honour the invitation.

The petitioners had told the EFCC that the former governor mismanaged pension remittances to the tune of N10 billion between 2011 and 2015.
