‘E-naira’ launch: Postponement made to avoid distractions from Nigeria’s independence celebration – CBN
Oct. 1, 2021
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has said the postponement of the official launch of its digital currency, the E-naira was made to avoid any distractions from the country’s 61st Independence Day celebration.
According to the CBN spokesperson, Mr. Osita Nwanisobi in a statement, the suspension of the launch was in deference to the mood of national rededication to the collective dream of One Nigeria.
Nwasinobi assured that there is no cause for alarm, saying the CBN and other partners were working round the clock to ensure a seamless process that will be for the “overall benefit of the customer, particularly those in the rural areas and the unbanked population”.
The CBN director added that the apex bank had put a structure in place to promptly address any issue that might arise from the pilot implementation of the eNaira.
“Nevertheless, the CBN has assured Nigerians that the bank and other partners are working to ensure a seamless process for the benefit of all”.
Meanwhile, no new date has been announced for the launch.
