Drama at Wadata House as Modu Sheriff Takes Charge, to Address Media Today
At last, the controversial National Chairman of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alli Modu Sheriff has gained access to the National headquarters of his party in Abuja. He had earlier been denied access to the Secretariat by the police who claimed their barricade and intervention in the crisis tearing the PDP apart was to arrest a possible breakdown of law and order.
The same police officers were at the gate to deny him access to the secretariat Monday leading to a mild drama, phone calls and counter-calls. The matter was later resolved when upon the directive of the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, the former Borno State Governor the police dropped their guard and allowed Sheriff to access the party office.
Sheriff recently got a court order to access to his party secretariat as the National Chairman. Arase was then ordered to ensure strict compliance to the court’s directive.
Sheriff’s action yesterday may rekindle the upheaval in the party as the other faction populated by former governors and some serving governors of the party may up their game to outsmart the Borno State-born grassroots politician.
