Dogara officially joins PDP as House approves N30,000 minimum wage
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, at the plenary on Tuesday officially announced his defection from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party. The announcement was received with wild cheers from the PDP members who screamed and screamed to the consternation of the APC members.
Dogara, along with President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, had so defected since July 2018 without announcing their defections on the floors of the chambers.
Meanwhile, the House of Representatives has approved the sum of N30,000 as the new national minimum wage.
The approval followed the adoption of the report by the ad hoc committee set up on the New Minimum Wage Bill presented to the National Assembly by President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday.
Passing the bill for the third reading on Tuesday, the lawmakers unanimously approved the N30,000 recommendation by the committee in consonance with the resolution by the tripartite committee set up by the President.
This development will assuage the organized labour who had insisted on a minimum wage of N30,000 or nothing.
