Delta agog as tribunal upholds Governor Oborevwori’s election as Governor
The Delta State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has upheld the election of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the duly elected candidate in the March 18 election.
The three-member tribunal headed by Justice C.H. Ahuchaogu dismissed the petition filed by former Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
The tribunal held that the petition contained unsubstantiated allegations, noting that it was devoid of merit and hugely speculative.
Omo-Agege came second in the March 18 election in which Oborevwori was declared as winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The ruling has triggered spasms of joy across Delta state.
At a popular joint on Nnebisi Road, Asaba, a man declared free drinks for everyone present at the time news hit town on Oborevwori’s victory.
“We are happy, Deltans are happy. The Governor we voted for has won and will continue winning. Sheriff is the people’s choice. We are okay with him. You can see he is already working, he is commissioning projects. He has brought Julius Berger to Delta which means he wants to do quality roads and bridges…,” gushed the man who identified himself as Mr ThankGod.
