February
Heavily armed and supremely confident robbers attacked four banks and a Police Divisional Headquarters on Thursday as they laid siege to Uromi town in Esan Northeast Local Government Area of Edo.
Zenith, UBA, First Bank, Union Bank, and the Police Division were attacked while two police personnel and five civilians lost their lives.
Eyewitnesses said the gunmen got to the town in their numbers and in several vehicles before they attacked the four banks with dynamites, adding they stayed up to two hours as they robbed the four banks simultaneously.
“They split into groups and perfectly coordinated the robbery without any resistance from security agencies,” a witness said.
The unmasked gunmen killed five persons and two police officers in the operation.
Police spokesman in Edo, SP Bello Kontongs, confirmed the robbery but said he had no further details.
He also confirmed the killing of the two Police officers and five civilians in the attack.
The robbers came fully prepared and by the time they commenced operation, nobody could challenge them. They came in many vehicles and they loaded sacks of cash in a red car as captured on video by persons who filmed the operation from the safety of their homes and office.
Video footage showed that the robbers took their time to move the cash out of the banks to their vehicles with no resistance from the police.
