Cybercrooks shut down GTBank website; we’re working on it – Mgt
The management of Guaranty Trust Bank, GTBank, says they are working to restore their website which was blighted by cybercrooks in one of a series of attacks aimed at Nigerian banks in recent years.
GTBank in a statement confirmed the attack but explained that its website was not cloned but suffered what it described as an “isolated incident of an attempt to compromise” the bank’s domain.
The bank’s website has been down since Wednesday night and was rendered inaccessible to customers, many of whom feared that their data may have been compromised.
The incident triggered a rash of media reports suggesting that the bank’s database may have been compromised.
Recall that some Nigerian banks have been under attack by cybercrooks in recent years with attendant spike in identity theft and compromise of depositors’ accounts.
However, GTBank said that it does “not store customer information on our website, and as such, there has been no instance of compromise of customer data.
“Our dedicated team of Information Security Experts is currently working round the clock to restore domain settings, and we can assure our customers that our website will be up shortly.
“We urge all our customers to please disregard the claims in these media reports and assure you of our unwavering commitment to safeguarding customer data,” GTBank said.
