March 15, 2018
The Police Command in Bayelsa on Thursday urged active collaboration between the police and the Mobility Command of the Nigerian Air force (NAF) in fighting crimes in the state.
The state Commissioner of Police, Don Awunah, sought the collaboration when he paid a courtesy call on AVM Stephen Onuh, the Air Officer Commanding (AOC) the mobility command in Yenagoa.
The commissioner said synergy and teamwork between the security outfits was necessary for effective crime prevention and control in the state.
Awuna reaffirmed the commitment of the state police command to securing lives and property of the residents and reducing crime to the barest minimum.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the police commissioner’s familiarisation visit to the mobility command came on the heels of the launch of its “Operation Safer Bayelsa.”
The police commissioner said the operation was part of the strategies by the police to clamp down on robbery, cultism and sundry criminal activities in the state.
“So, we have come to seek collaboration and assistance from the NAF.
“We know that the police cannot do it alone; we call on other security agencies to partner with us in our efforts to ensure peaceful environment for the people,” Awunah said.
Responding, AVM Onuh lauded the police command for seeking collaboration with sister agencies to maximise the effectiveness of its strategies for crime prevention and control.
He assured the police command of NAF’s readiness to partner with it in ensuring the security of lives and property of the people of Bayelsa and all Nigerians.
He called on other security agencies in the state as well as the residents to support the efforts of the police toward ensuring peace and stability.
