COVID-19: Quarantined Chinese nationals test negative in Plateau, placed under supervised isolation – Minister

Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire

The Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, on Monday noted that the four Chinese nationals quarantined in Plateau state have tested negative to Covid-19.

The Plateau state government had reported four suspected cases of the coronavirus on Saturday and placed the individuals on quarantine.

However, the Minister, in a press briefing, said “none of these cases have any symptoms” and that they have all “been tested at the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, reference laboratory and they are all negative for coronavirus infection.”

He further said that the state has placed them under supervised isolation for 14 days.

“We will continue to monitor the global situation with cases spreading quickly in countries as they are doing now,” Ehanire said.

The minister had maintained that since the outbreak of the virus in China, there was an inter-ministerial meeting with agencies responsible for manning Nigeria’s entry-point.

“On January 31, we had an inter-ministerial and multi-sectoral meeting in Abuja with services related to coming into the country.

“We have focused largely on our international airports; the five, of which four are functional at the moment. The possibility of importation by sea is remote but we are not taking our eyes away from there, the Ports health authorities are also with us in our conversations.”
