Corruption: Saminu Turaki, ex-Jigawa governor, arrested at book launch
A former governor of Jigawa State, Saminu Turaki, has been arrested and taken into custody by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. Turaki was in 2013 declared wanted by a Federal High Court, sitting in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital over allegations of financial mismanagement while serving as governor of his state.
Attempts by EFCC to get him to appear before the commission were said to have failed severally as the former governor kept evading summons. He also allegedly failed to make court appearances. Turaki had been declared wanted by the EFCC for allegedly failing to present himself for trial on corruption charges since 2011.
It is reported that Turaki has been evading court appearance for his prosecution following which the court issued an arrest warrant.
He was arrested by operatives of the anti-graft agency on Tuesday afternoon in Abuja at the venue of the public presentation of a book on Brigadier Zakariya Maimalari.
