Chelsea: Pochettino, Potter tapped to replace sacked Tuchel
New majority owner of Chelsea FC Todd Boehly has wasted no time in ousting their manager Thomas Tuchel with Brighton’s Graham Potter and out-of-work Mauricio Pochettino, whose last station was PSG in France, tipped as possible replacement.
Tuchel has been sacked after 100 games in charge of Chelsea, winning 62. In his first 50 games, Chelsea conceded only 24 goals, while in his last 50 games they have shipped in 53 goals. His sack came barely 12 hours after their 1-0 Champions League defeat to Dinamo Zagreb.
Chelsea are sixth in the Premier League and have made a miserable start to their Champions League campaign challenge last night being his 100th match in charge.
In a statement Chelsea wrote: ‘On behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC, the Club would like to place on record its gratitude to Thomas and his staff for all their efforts during their time with the Club.
‘Thomas will rightly have a place in Chelsea’s history after winning the Champions League, the Super Cup and Club World Cup in his time here.
‘As the new ownership group reaches 100 days since taking over the Club, and as it continues its hard work to take the club forward, the new owners believe it is the right time to make this transition.’
Brighton boss Graham Potter is the top target, while out-of-work Mauricio Pochettino is also under consideration, reports Sportsmail.
Chelsea added they will move ‘swiftly’ to appoint a new manager and Tuchel’s coaching staff will take charge of the team in the interim.
