CHAN Eagles to play Sudan in semi-final, Buhari happy, Nigerians hail goalkeeper Ezenwa
President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated the CHAN Eagles on the spectacular 2-1 win over Angola in Championship of African Nations (CHAN) quarter finals in Morocco. The Eagles will meet Sudan in the semi-final
Buhari’s congratulatory message is contained in a statement issued by Malam Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, in Abuja on Sunday.
The presidential aide said Buhari, who watched the match in his hotel room in Addis Ababa after a long day of meetings, which started at 8 a.m and ended at 5.30 p.m, wished them “the very best for the upcoming matches’’.
Anthony Okpotu equalized for Nigeria at the 90th minute to stretch the match to extra time, while Gabriel Okechukwu sealed the win at 109th minute.
Meanwhile, Coach Mansur Abdullahi, Assistant coach of the Falconets, on Sunday called on the Super Eagles to be proactive in scoring goals to guarantee total confidence on both players and supporters.
Abdullahi made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) while reacting to Nigeria’s 2-1 victory over Angola in Championship of African Nations (CHAN) quarter finals.
He said that fighting from the back to either score or level up was of a great psychological disadvantage to highly rated Nigerian team.
He particularly lauded Captain Ikechukwu Ezenwa for his timely saves, which according to him are very crucial. The Nigeria’s goal tender was the star performer on the night and he was lavishly praised by the commentators for the match and Nigerians who said he was the only player good enough for the World Cup in Russia.
