Buhari Wants 15 Advisers, Sends Request to Senate
President Muhammadu Buhari, Tuesday, requested the approval of the Nigeria’s Senate to appoint 15 Special Advisers. This was contained in a letter transmitted to the Upper Chamber and read at plenary by Senate President David Mark.
A senator who wished not to be named told our correspondent that the Upper Chamber would expedite action on the request. “We do not foresee any delay in the approval. We hope to deal with the request before the end of next week”.
According to Buhari, the 15 Special Advisers “will assist me to carry out my functions as President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces”.
He anchored the request on the provision of Section 151 (1), (2), (3) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
It is expected that the Senate under the leadership of David Mark will approve the request before the inauguration of the 8th Assembly that will be headed by an All Progressives Congress (APC) Senator.
The APC, now the majority party secured 61 seats during the March 28 National Assembly election while the Peoples Democratic Party, secured 48 seats.
