Buhari, still sick, extends leave, writes National Assembly
President Muhammadu Buhari who is expected to resume on Monday February 6 from a 10-day sick leave is not returning to Nigeria as scheduled fuelling speculation that his ailment may be more than originally imagined. No date was given for his return from London.
To avoid constitutional crisis, the president on Sunday wrote to the National Assembly informing the legislature of his desire to extend his leave in order to complete and receive the results of a series of tests recommended by his doctors.
The President had planned to return to Abuja this evening, but was advised to complete the test cycle before returning. The notice has since been dispatched to the Senate President, and Speaker, House of Representatives.
Buhari in a statement by Femi Adesina, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, expressed his sincere gratitude to Nigerians for their concern, prayers and kind wishes.
