Buhari cancels FEC meeting, opts for individual briefings from VP, ministers
President Muhammadu Buhari has cancelled the Federal Executive Council meeting (FEC) expected to hold today. The Presidency did not give any reason why it was cancelled. However, Political Economist learnt that Mr President told insiders that he would rather receive further briefings from Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and other key ministers to fully stay abreast of what transpired during his 103 days absence.
One of the briefings expected today was for the President to receive the report of the inquest into the culpability or not of former SGF Lawal Babachir and former DG of NIA Mr. Oke, both of whom were investigated by a special panel headed by the Vice President.
A Presidency source ruled out fatigue and tiredness, stressing that the President presided over the Security Council meeting on Tuesday and therefore could not be said to be fatigued from the marathon medical treatment.
“On the contrary, the President is fully rested and he is very fit to take on the business of governance in full energy. Those who say he is tired are wrong. He has been working since he returned and the business of governance is going on well which is the most important thing, not whether he presides over all meetings or not”, the source said.
The cancellation of the FEC meeting was sudden as none of the ministers was notified yesterday. They all got notice of cancellation this morning. This was supposed to be the first FEC meeting since President Buhari returned to the country after spending 103 days on medical vacation in London. The meeting held every Wednesday under the leadership of then Acting President Yemi Osinbajo.
