Buhari, APC Elders Appeal for Calm, Unity at Crucial Meeting
President Muhammadu Buhari was brisk and overtly happy as he chaired a crucial caucus meeting of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) party last night at Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The meeting was convened with a short notice and took the advantage of APC governors and chieftains who were in Abuja for the economic retreat of the National Economic Council (NEC).
No agenda was formerly issued ahead of the meeting but a source at the meeting said the party rallied to patch up cracks that were beginning to emerge within the party in addition to appealing to gladiators who have been angling for key positions in the party especially the position of BoT Chairman which seemed to have polarized the party along the followers of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu who is pushing for the former interim National Chairman of the party, Chief Bisi Akande and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar who insiders said has never hidden his intention to step into the position.
Aside party matters, President Buhari was said to have passionately appealed to key members of the party especially the governors and ministers to deliver on the campaign promises of their party.
Visible faces at the meeting were former Lagos State Governor and strong party elder, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Dogara, former Governor of Kano State Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso who is feuding with his successor, former governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, Chief Odigie Oyegun, the party chairman, among others.
