BREAKING: Labour suspends strike, FG suspends electricity tariff hike
The organized Labour has suspended the strike billed to start Monday as the Federal Government and Labour reached amicable agreement at 2:53am on Monday after hours of meeting.
Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Barr. Festus Keyamo announced this early Monday morning from the meeting venue.
Part of the agreement was that deregulation of the downstream sector with respect of fuel prices should stay as the government agreed to roll out palliatives for Labour, details which should be announced in two weeks. It was also agreed that the recent hike in electricity tariffs be suspended by government for two weeks with a joint Committee headed by Keyamo to examine the justification for the new policy.
A communique issued at the end of the meeting was signed by representatives of all negotiating parties: Boss Mustapha, Secretary to Federal Government Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Employment; Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information; Festus Keyamo; Timipre Sylva, Minister of State, Petroleum Resources, Jedy Agba, Minister of State, Power; Ayuba Wabba, NLC President; Quadri Olaleye, TUC President; Musa Lawal Ozigi, Secretary General TUC; Festus Osifo, President PENGASSAN; Chris Okonkwo, President SSAEAC; Martin Uzoegwu, President NUEE; Williams E. Akoreha, President NUPENG and Emmanuel Ugboaja, Secretary General NLC.
