At Last, Police Redeploy Mbu, Rivers CP, 22 Others
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Muhammed Abubakar, on Thursday bowed to pressure and ordered the immediate re-deployment of twenty-three Commissioners of Police(CPs) including the controversial Rivers State Police boss, Mbu Joseph Mbu in a shake-up of the Force.
Mbu has been moved to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja command, while the former Commissioner of Police (CP) Special Fraud Unit (SFU) Tunde Ogunsakin, is to replace him.
The Commissioner of Police(CP) Ogunsakin, of the Special Fraud Unit (SFU) in Lagos is moving to Rivers State as the Police boss in an exercise described by analysts as controversial. Also some thirteen Deputy Commissioners of Police(DCPs) were re-deployed to various Commands and Formations across the country. The posting according to the Force Public Relations Officer(FPRO) Frank Mbah, in a statement is part of strategic efforts to reposition the Force for improved efficiency and better service delivery.
Mbah stated further in the statement that IGP Abubakar has enjoined the affected Police Chiefs to step up the fight against all forms of criminality in the country and equally ensure sustained improvement of public safety in all facets of our national life.
He appealed to Nigerians from all walks of life to support the new Police Commissioners and their lieutenants to enable them succeed in the discharge of their constitutional and statutory mandate.
Agitation for removal of Mbu from Rivers began in June last year, shortly after the Police was accused of partisanship by some political stalwarts in the oil rich Niger Delta State of Nigeria.
