Asaba 2018 Championships: Organisers announce $6,600 prize money
With the completion of the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, venue for the forthcoming Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) Championships, the organisers of the African Athletics Tour have announced prize money and released order of events.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the African Athletics Tour scheduled for July 18, will be used to test run the Stephen Keshi Stadium ahead of the continental competition.
The CAA championships, is scheduled for Aug. 1 to Aug. 5 with Nigeria featuring 95 athletes.
The events at the meet have been grouped into three categories namely the Premium, Classic and National.
The first three athletes in the Premium event will take home 2, 000, 1, 000 and 750 dollars respectively, while the top three finishers in the Classic will cart away 1, 000, 750 and 500 dollars each.
The top three finishers in the National category get 300, 200 and 100 dollars respectively.
The events to be featured are the men and women’s 100m, 400m, 400m Hurdles, Long Jump, Shot put and 100m Hurdles.
Others are the women’s Hammer throw, women’s 1500m, men’s 5000m, men and women’s 4x100m and 4x400m relays.
Some of Nigeria’s athletes like Abike Egbeniyi who is a 400m and 800m athlete, Peter Moreno, a multi-talented athlete, Oyeniyi Abejoye and Bashiru Abdullahi both 110m Hurdlers are expected to compete in the one day event.
