Arrest of Oluomo linked to a petition on alleged financial scam
The arrest of the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Olakunle Oluomo, by operatives of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been linked to a petition to EFCC which detailed series of sleaze allegedly committed by the Speaker.
He was arrested around 9 am on Thursday at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos.
A top politician in Ogun who pleaded not to be named said there had been series of petitions against the speaker alleging cases of financial fraud.
It was also learnt that based on the petition, the speaker had on different occasions been invited by the EFCC but he shunned the invitations, prompting the anti-graft body to move in to arrest him. He is wanted to shed light on certain deals which members of the anti-graft agency said have left more to the imagination.
The leadership of the Commission has kept mum over the arrest but they are expected to issue a statement shortly.
Oluomo has been taken to the EFCC’s Lagos office for further questioning.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State House of Assembly has remained calm after the arrest of the Speaker by anti-graft operatives.
