May 11, 2018
The 16 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Yenagoa, has released the two trucks it impounded along Ogbia-Nembe road in Bayelsa on suspicion that it was conveying illegally refined petroleum product.
The Spokesman of the brigade, Maj. Danjuma Danjuma, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday, that the trucks and the drivers had been released to the owners.
Danjuma said that the release followed the confirmation of the test conducted on the product in Port Harcourt which showed that product was sourced from an illegal refinery.
According to him, the laboratory test results confirmed that the product was duly sourced from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) as claimed by owners.
Meanwhile, the various unions in the fuel distribution chain in the state, which ceased to function because of the seizure of the trucks, have resumed operation.
The development has eased fuel shortage that was experienced in Bayelsa after the unions stopped their operations.
