APC is responsible for the nation’s woes, Okorocha admits, but assures “we will fix it”
In a rare turnaround, the Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum and Imo State Governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha, on Monday in Abuja admitted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is responsible for Nigeria’s woes. He called for a halt in buck-passing among the APC leadership, urging them to take responsibility for the woes that have befallen the nation.
Okorocha though said some of the travails predated their ascension to power, stretching to the PDP era but he cautioned that buck-passing and shifting blame has not helped matters.
He spoke with State House correspondents after the APC governors closed door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa. Okorocha’s statement was contrary to the opinions expressed in the past by members of his party.
“As APC, we are responsible for everything happening in Nigeria. We are responsible for the good, the bad, the ugly but we are promising Nigerians that we shall fix it”, he told the media.
He said the nation was going through “a very serious economic surgery” hence the pains being experienced, stressing that there is no surgery without pain. He urged patience among Nigerians.
“Let us do things the right way and do it once and for all. I am sure that by next year, you will begin to see changes, the price of rice will drop, prices of dollars will begin to stabilise and we will see a lot of changes.
“But at this painful moment, nobody likes it. It is like a woman in the labour room, when she is in the labour room there is no joy but she has to pass through that moment and that moment, she does not wear her high heel shoes, no makeup, no champagne, no party.
“She is going through a process but shortly after that process, joy cometh once she sees the child. So, Nigerians should bear with us as a government.”
Okorocha noted for being vocal may have courted the wrath of some party faithful who have continued to blame the previous PDP government for all the economic woes that have befallen the nation.
