Aminu Blasts Politicians, Says they are Liars
Professor Jubril Aminu, former Petroleum Minister, would want to come in his next life as a Nigerian.
Aminu said he was not unmindful of the many socio-political and economic problems plaguing his country, Nigeria, but added that Nigeria remains his first choice given a chance at re-incarnation.
Speaking to Political Economist correspondent at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, Prof. Aminu said what was lacking in his country was truth.
“The problem with this country is truth. Our leaders lack the morals of telling the truth. They forgot that when you tell one lie, you would need 10 others to cover it up.”
In recent time, the nation’s political atmosphere had been frenetic and feverish with opposition political parties twisting and spinning tales to outsmart one another. For many Nigerians, this is far from the ideal political atmosphere they desire.
Aminu, a professor of cardiology was elected senator in 2003. He was also at a time the minister of education. Reminiscing, he said he is yet to see the political Nigeria of his dream. “So many things have gone wrong, our leaders are no longer interested in leaving a name, they want to leave plenty money in the bank. This is money they would never spend. Very unfortunate.”
Aminu said the country’s political equation was disjointed and has been contaminated. “My prayer is that God should help us,” he said philosophically.
With the political class split not according to ideological divides but driven by hate and ethnic sentiments, the former minister said Nigeria was yet to have a political class, insisting, “what we have now are political masquerades.”
