Alamieyeseigha Son’s Death in Dubai: Interpol Steps in, Jonathan Condoles Family
The International Police Department (INTERPOL) in Nigeria, has confirmed the death in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) of Oyoms Alamieyeseigha, 24, the second son of the former governor of Bayelsa State, Diepreye S.P. Alamieyeseigha. This is even as President Goodluck Jonathan has sent condolences to the bereaved family. President Jonathan was deputy to Alamieyeseigha when the latter was governor of Bayelsa State.
Speaking to our correspondent in a telephone interview, the Commissioner of Police (CP) INTERPOL Nigeria, Atinuke Koyi, said “ we have been able to establish contact with our counterpart in Dubai and the incident has been confirmed.”
The Police Chief however stated that, she was yet to have details of what led to the death of the former governor’s son. “I don’t have details of what happened, but all we have been told is that, a death has been reported of young Nigerian in Dubai, who was later identified to be the son of the former governor of Bayelsa State.”
However, speculation was rife that the victim must have died in Dubai in what appeared to be a freak accident in one of the plush apartments rented by the sacked former governor in Dubai.
“His body was found in the corridor of the apartment by the security men guarding the apartment,” an International Police source said.
While there was speculation that the young man committed suicide, others dismissed that, stating that he has no reason to take his life. “He must have been killed. Why would he commit suicide? But let us not rush into conclusion, investigation will unravel everything,” said our source.
Already, the former Bayelsa State governor in a short statement has confirmed the death of his son in Dubai, but declined details.
DSP Alamieyeseigha according our source has left Abuja for Dubai to retrieve the body of his dead son.
“We are hearing that Oyoms Alamieyeseigha just suffered an accident in one of his father’s houses in Dubai and died just like that,” our source said.
The source also added that the deceased was a student in Dubai.
