ALABA MARKET DEMOLITION: TECHNICAL COMMITTEE MEETS

The Technical Committee set up by the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu to look into the issue of demolition of some critically distressed buildings at Alaba International Market in Ojo area of the State have met.
In a statement on Thursday, the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development (MPP&UD), Engr. Oluwole Sotire, said the committee was set up to look into the demolition carried out by the government and proffer lasting solutions on the way forward that will be beneficial to both traders and the State Government.
While briefing the committee members about the Terms of Reference (ToR) for the task, Engr. Sotire emphasised that the State Government is interested in the financial prosperity of all Lagosians as well as the safety of lives and properties, saying that all hands must be on deck to ensure that things are properly done.
The General Manager of LASBCA, Arc. Gbolahan Owodunni Oki, who is also a member of the committee reiterated the Agency’s readiness to work with other members of the committee to deliver on the Terms of Reference.
Another member of the committee, Mazi Samuel Ohuabunwa, an elder and a member of Igbo Businessmen in Nigeria, commended the efforts of the State Government for initiating the committee which he believes would help douse tension amongst the Igbos in the State and also look at various ways of addressing the issue of distressed structures.
The meeting also had in attendance, the General Manager, Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA), Tpl. Kehinde Oshinaike, General Obi Umahi (Rtd.), Mr. Chris O. Maduka and Prince Tony Nwaku.
