Again, Saraki Loses Bid to Stop Trial at CCT
The embattled President of the Senate, Rt. Hon. Bukola Saraki, has again for the umpteenth time lost his bid to stop his ongoing trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT.
The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Friday dismissed Saraki’s suit seeking to halt his corruption trial at the CCT in what appears to be the last hope for Saraki who since the commencement of the trial pulled every stunt to stall the process.
Justice Abdul Kafarati held that ruling to stop the trial of Saraki would be at variance with the CCT that has assumed jurisdiction on the matter.
Justice Kafarati held thus: “I find that none of the claims fall within chapter four of the constitution.
“This court cannot interfere with the proceedings before the tribunal; it cannot also interfere with the duties of the respondents which have been imposed on them by law.”
Saraki had asked the court to stop CCB from arresting and interrogating him. But the judge ruled that the court has no powers to stop the CCT from discharging its constitutional obligation.
