AFCON: Ekong, Nsue, William, South Africa win Awards
Nigeria Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, has emerged Player of the Tournament while Equatorial Guinea captain, Emilio Nsue won the Golden Boot Award with five goals despite his country’s round of 16 exit.
Other awards include the Fair Play Team Award won by South Africa and Goalkeeper of the Tournament award clinched by Ronwen William of South Africa.
In the final match between hosts Ivory Coast and Nigeria, Ivorien Simon Adingra put up a masterclass of football wizardry to emerge TotalEnergies Man of the Match.
Ivory Coast won the Cup with a 2-1 victory in a match that witnessed biased officiating and questionable calls.
But the hosts were hungrier for the title and overawed the Super Eagles by sheer grit and determination.
Emilio Nsue joins a list of elite goal scorers in including, Samuel Eto’o, Didier Drogba, Vincent Aboubakar and Odion Ighalo to win the top scorer awards in the history of TotalEnergies CAF AFCON.
Angola’s Jacinto Dala followed closely with 4 goals.
